Ongoing Requirements of Certified Professional Guardian

An annual report and fee is due July 1 each year.  

Annual certification of Continuing Guardian Education credits is required by December 31 each year. 

There is an ongoing requirement to disclose certain matters

Annual Report and Fee

Report  Certified Professional Guardian must file an annual report on a form provided by AOC. This  report is due on July 1 each year. See  Rule 111.5

Fee.  Certified Professional Guardians  and Certified Professional Guardianship Agencies must pay an annual fee of $150.   The fee is due by July 1 of each year.  Late fees are assessed. Failure to pay by September 1 each year results in revocation of certification. See Rule 111.6, 111.7, 111.8

Ongoing Disclosure Requirements

GR 23 (e) and  Rule 119 require that CPGs must disclose within 45 days judgments certain adverse judicial or administrative findings.  Generally these include judgments, adverse court findings, licensing proceedings, disciplinary actions, criminal convictions, vulnerable adult actions or other court findings.  CPGs must advise the board of changes of address. Agencies must keep the board advised of all Certified Professional Guardians they employ or who leave their employ. Failure to report in a timely manner is in itself a violation of the rule and may result in disciplinary proceedings.

Continuing Guardian Education

See Rule 200, Continuing Education Requirements.  Each Guardian must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours of approved education during each calendar year, except as exempted by Regulation 214.  The following distribution of credits must be obtained: Two on ethics issues, four  relating to guardians of the estate, four  relating to guardians of the person, and two  for general guardianship issues. By December 31 each year CPGs must complete and send to AOC an Affidavit of Attendance at Continuing Guardian Education Failure to make this report can result in decertification.

Continuing Guardian Education classes are provided by private vendors, not the Board or AOC. Classes must be approved for credit by the Board.

Vendor Requests for Training Approval

GPGs may apply for credit for trainings for which vendors did not seek approval for Continuing Guardian Education Credits. LINK TO FORM NEEDED. 

CPGs who participate as trainers or coordinators of training events are entitled to claim additional Continuing Guardian Education credits using Affidavit of Teaching or Participation
